US Open 2010

It's that time of year again! The 2010 US Open is now upon us and the Wilson/Luxilon Stringing Team is arriving in New York. As always, the team will be stringing on the state-of-the-art Wilson Baiardo stringing machine. Sixteen machines and stringers will string over 3,000 racquets this year as the world's best players rely on Wilson and Baiardo to take care of their needs. Set-up began on August 19 and the machines are being calibrated and tested on August 20 in preparation for qualifying. Racquets will begin arriving on August 21 as qualifying will begin August 23. Follow Baiardo and all of the action below!
August 20th (above) - Baiardo set-up is complete and the stringers will arrive tomorrow. The Wilson Stringing Team will be calibrating Baiardos and making fine adjustments to ensure world class results for the touring pros.

August 23rd (above) - Qualifying matches start on Tuesday (August 24th), but the Wilson Stringing Team is already in tournament form as the racquets have been pouring into the stringing room. Although rain washed out much of practice on Sunday, players were still present to drop off racquets to be strung on Baiardo. Today the team expects to string over 300 racquets as players finish practice sessions and get ready for some of the biggest matches of their lives.
August 25th (above) - Rain continues to fall in New York but the Wilson Stringing Team continues to stay very active. With limited practice sessions, the players continue to tinker with their string tensions to find the perfect set-up. Most players have been reducing their tensions to accomodate for the cool, damp weather. The forecast calls for a warm-up toward the weekend, so Baiardo will be ready to adjust tensions again as the players continue their search for the perfect feel.

August 27th (above) - The Wilson Stringing Team and Baiardo are happy to see the sun finally come out at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. With picture weather the racquets came in fast and furious as qualifying matches finally began and practice courts were not rain soaked. The team strung over 220 racquets on Baiardo yesterday and look to do more of the same today. Qualifying will wrap up by Saturday and many main draw players are already in New York gettting ready for the start of play.
August 29th (above) - Today will be the busiest day of the US Open for Baiardo and the Wilson Stringing Team. Over 300 racquets will strung today by the 15 stringers on site. With qualifying completed, and the main draw beginning tomorrow, practice courts will be busy all day as players adjust to the conditions. Many players are coming to the Wilson Stringing Room adjusting tensions in reaction to the warmer weather anticipated over the new few days. The temperature has increased over 20 degrees and tensions are rising to match.
August 31st (above) - The past two days have been extremely busy for the Wilson Stringing Team. Sunday the team strung 340 racquets and Monday the team strung 321 racquets. With the main draw in full swing, Baiardo and the team have been cranking out racquets to the players exact specifications. On-court racquets were the name of the game Monday as the team strung 9 on-court frames for players in action. The fastest racquet was turned around in just over 15 minutes with no racquet taking longer than 19 minutes.
